A 16-amino-acid peptide encoded inside mitochondrial DNA — studied in metabolism and aging research.

MOTS-c is unusual — it's encoded inside mitochondrial DNA, not the nucleus. Scientists discovered it relatively recently, hidden inside a stretch of mitochondrial RNA. It's part of a small family of "mitochondrial-derived peptides," and research has built up around it as a tool for studying metabolism and how mitochondria talk to the rest of the cell.
How it's been studied: Research from the Cohen and Lee labs has examined how MOTS-c switches on AMPK (a master metabolic enzyme), how it influences glucose uptake in muscle-cell lines, and how it acts as a signal from mitochondria back to the cell nucleus.

Handling notes: Standard peptide handling. The peptide is amphipathic (it has both water-loving and oil-loving regions) so make sure it fully dissolves on reconstitution.
Every batch is third-party tested for purity, identity, and contaminants. Download the COA for the lot you receive.
