MT-2 (Melanotan II) is a synthetic, cyclic version of α-MSH — that is, the peptide is closed into a ring, which makes it more stable. Compared to its sister molecule Melanotan-1, MT-2 is less picky: it hits multiple melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R) instead of being mostly MC1R-selective.
How it's been studied: Lab research has compared MT-2 against MT-1 and other α-MSH analogs to map out exactly which receptors each one prefers. MC4R activity has drawn particular interest in animal-model studies of energy balance.
